🟢 Cartoonist Information 🟢

👍🏽 This is Tom Toro's 15th cartoon in TNYCCC.

⭐️ Tom Toro's first Contest: Contest #376 • April 15, 2013.

🟢 Contest Information 🟢

We're one Contest away from an amazing 1000 Contests. The first Contest, cartoon by Mike Twohy, winner was announced in the May 23, 2005 print issue. The winner was Roy Futterman, New York City.

Testing the new HumorOramaLOL feature to find similar cartoon objects and we've found five elephant cartoons. Four elephants very relevantly in the room and the fifth Contest elephant just used as background at a zoo.

HumorOramaLOL is debuting a really, really cool feature to help you find these Contests with similar cartoon objects? Anyone remember "Tangential Contests" but, this is TCv2. How should we describe it: superduper Tangential Contests.

Stay tuned for upcoming information on the new TCv2 (← temporary name!)

Contest #997

All contestants are first-time Finalist Appearances.

Do I dare to attempt caption humor type classification? Interesting after all the discussions on puns, it appears we have two puns this week.
Here's how I see the caption humor type classification:

"I understand that service has been partially suspended."
Pun

"It thinks it can."
Cultural Allusion - The Little Engine That Could.

"See, I knew the train would turn up soon."
Pun. Almost an Idiom Pun, but in American English we don't really say the train will turn up. Typically we say '...would come soon.' or '...would arrive soon.'
However, I am partial to British English and I have heard my mom say things similar to 'turn up soon." So, I'm very close to calling it an Idiom Pun.

At any rate, can we agree that all puns are wordplay, but not all wordplay is a pun?

2030 is used in the winning caption, although perhaps that makes it not an evergreen caption. First time this has happened? No!
